Cindy near hurricane strength
An earlier report of 70 mph from a ship near Cindy in the Gulf caused NHC to dispatch a NOAA hurricane hunter aircraft to the storm. Originally NHC has discounted the report as their quality control showed this to be far too strong. However, the hurricane hunter just reported back and verified that in fact Cindy is near hurricane strength. NHC has upgraded TS Cindy to 70 mph. Little additional strengthening is likely but Cindy should shortly be making landfall as a very strong tropical storm or possibly a very weak hurricane. Check back for updates as they become available.
