Earthshaking news about hurricanes
New research is now showing that hurricanes can actually microtremors in the Earth's surface. Randal Peters at Mercer University has just released a paper discussing that very small earthquakes created when Hurricane Charley passed over Florida last August. Best of all: the sensors were located in Macon, Georgia! This is the first time that anyone has proven that the Earth can be shook by a hurricane. What makes this especially surprising, is that the Earth was detectably vibrating hundreds of miles away from the storm!
